İzmir Atatürk High School (IAL), as well as being one of the symbols of Izmir with its 138 year-old history, is also one of the city’s most important schools not only with its outstanding success but also its architecture that carries traces of the ancient Aegean.

    It was established in 1886 as a 5-year preparatory school. Presently, the school is now a five-year (prep+4) high school and employs 110 full-time teachers serving the needs of more than 1400 students.

On February 1, 1931; Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, visited our school. He entered the classrooms and listened to the lectures.

In addition, our school has an alumni association. It is a well-established association consisting of graduates of our school, and it supporting our school in all kinds of activities.

The school is one of Turkey's most academically selective schools, and such has achieved many outstanding results in recent years. Our school facilitates many activities.

One of these activities is the waltz, one of Atatürk's favorite dances, a dance that has become a tradition in our school. We can say that this dance, which is held every year, reflects the spirit of our school.
