Brady heard his mother, but did not get out of bed.
I don't want it to be my birthday, Brady thought, a
bit grumpy.
When Brady didn't get out of bed, Brady's mother
went up and knocked on his door.
"Brady? Why don't you come down for breakfast; I
made your favorite - a pancake face with bacon."
Brady's mother said.
Brady's stomach let out a loud growl, which made
Brady's mother laugh.

After climbing out of bed and walking downstairs,
Brady plopped into a seat at the kitchen table. In
front of him was a pancake face with bacon, just as
his mother had said.

Brady stuffed all the pancake in his mouth so that
he looked like a little chipmunk!

"Happy Birthday!" Brady's sister squealed, coming up
to his place at the kitchen table, and sitting herself
down as well.
Brady smiled at her and said thank you, even though
he didn't want it to be his birthday.
"Brady!" His mother and father called from the living
room. "Come here!"
Brady ran to his parents in the other room.

"We love you Brady!" They smiled at him, wrapping
their arms around him in a big hug. Brady's sister
came in from the kitchen to join them too.

"We have a surprise for you, Brady." Brady's father
said.
"What is it?" Brady asked curiously. Even though he
didn't want it to be his birthday, he still liked surprises.
"Well, since today is the last day of summer, and your
birthday too, we invited all of your neighborhood friends
for a birthday party!" Brady's mother said.
Brady looked at his family in shock. A birthday party?
Wow! As much as Brady didn't want it to be his
birthday, he still liked birthday parties

A little while later, Brady went outside to set up for the
guests that were going to arrive soon for the party. He
blew up balloons, put up streamers, and got out the
party hats.

After Brady was done, he went back up to his room.
Brady's mother saw that he was sad, and went to ask
him what was wrong.
"Aren't you happy it's your birthday, Brady?" Brady's
mother asked.
"No." Brady sighed, sadly.
"Why not?"
"I don't want to grow up!" Brady frowned.
Brady's mother gave him a big hug. "It's great to be
young, but growing up is apart of life."
