Liam was an adventurous Grade 5 learner who loved solving puzzles. One afternoon, he found a mysterious letter in his mailbox.

"Dear Liam, if you want to uncover the secrets of machines, follow the clues hidden in your town. Begin at the park."

Excited, Liam grabbed his backpack and ran out the door, ready for an adventure

The spinning surprise 

At the park, Liam found a note taped to the seesaw. "A machine that turns, moves things, and makes your ride fun. Look around!"

He spotted the merry-go-round. "This is a mechanical system! It uses gears and a rotating mechanism to spin," he realized.

Liam checked under the merry-go-round and found another clue leading to the city mall.

The lifting puzzle 

At the mall, the clue directed Liam to something that moved people between floors. He ran to the elevator.

"An elevator is a mechanical system that uses pulleys and motors to lift people up and down!" he exclaimed.

Inside the elevator, another clue awaited him: "Head to the garage for the final test!"

The power engines 

In his dad’s garage, Liam found a final note on the car’s hood: "The heart of a car, it turns fuel into motion. Can you guess?"

"It’s the engine!" Liam shouted. "Engines use pistons and fuel to make the car move."

Suddenly, the lights flickered, and a voice boomed, "Congratulations, Liam! You’ve solved the Machine Quest!"

The inventor's Challenge

Liam turned around to find his Grandpa smiling. "You’ve discovered how mechanical systems work! Now, I challenge you to build your own."

Liam’s mind raced with ideas. "Maybe I’ll create a machine that helps my dog fetch balls!"
