A long time ago, Spain was one of the richest and strongest countries in the world! Spanish explorers sailed across the ocean and found gold, silver, and new lands. The Spanish king and queen were very powerful.

Spain ruled many places, like parts of North and South America, the Philippines, and even parts of Europe! Spain’s empire was spread across the world.

Spain had many enemies, like England and France. They wanted Spain’s gold and power. Spain had to fight many wars to protect its land.

In 1588, Spain sent many ships, called the Spanish Armada, to fight England. But a big storm and strong English ships sank many of Spain’s ships. Spain lost the battle!

Spain had a lot of gold, but it didn’t use it wisely. Instead of making farms and factories, Spain bought things from other countries. Soon, Spain ran out of money!
