Welcome to 480 BCE! You have time 

traveled 2,495 years into the past and 

you are now in Ancient Sparta. Sparta 

was one of multiple Greek city-states, 

commonly called polis. Since you are now 

a member of Spartan society, you can 

choose whether you would like to take the 

path of a male or a female. To become a 

Male Spartan, go to page 5. To become a 

Female Spartan, go to page 15.

Happy birthday! Today you turned 7. As a 7-

year-old, you are now of age to attend military 

school. A while ago, Sparta's slaves, called 

helots, rebelled against the empire. Ever since, 

Sparta has kept up a strong military force to be 

able to shut down future rebellions or excel in 

war. Sparta needs YOU to join military school 

and help keep their army strong!

You have just graduated military school, 

and now you are enrolled in the 

professional army. What an 

accomplishment! You live in the house 

behind you, which is called a barrack. You 

can get married at this point, but you are 

only allowed to sneak out of your barrack 

late at night to see your wife. Would you 

like to marry? If so, turn to page 11. If 

not, turn to page 13.

You have found yourself a beautiful 

wife, but unfortunatley, you got carried 

away and snuck out to see her too 

often. You weren't able to make it back 

to your barrack in time, and you missed 

your call for battle practice. Now you're 

in trouble with the military officers! 

You'd better return to page 9 and try 

again.

You have chosen not to marry, so as a result, 

you have become more dedicated to your 

honorable job as a soldier. In this battle, you 

fought so well, that you were promoted to the 

role of officer. In the near future, at age 60, 

you will retire. You'll always remember the 

great respect and loyalty that you have 

learned during your years of service! Flip back 

to page 3 to experience the life of a Female 

Spartan.
