Many Greek women did not have an education or any other freedoms and lived with their dad or husband. The Greek world did not treat women the same as men, but Spartan women were freer than other Greek women.

Spartan girls were allowed to train and could even train with the other boys. They were also allowed to compete in competitions and races with them. Spartan women were seen as the most beautiful in all of Greece because they were so fit.

Sparta wanted a very strong army, so the boys were trained to become great warriors. While they were becoming soldiers, the women were being taught to be good mothers of soldiers. In Sparta, they were only seen as that, mothers of warriors, and not as their own person.

A woman's role in Sparta was mostly for them to be strong mothers who make strong men for the military. The small amounts of education and training they got were not for them, but for their future male children so that they could be good soldiers and fight for their country.
