The Test
It was a misty Thursday afternoon while the children in the classroom waited for the last tick on the clock. Tick, tick, tick. Finally, the bell rang and joyous shouts came from my classroom. My teacher, Lianna held me back as I was leaving. She said, “Melissa, please study for the test tomorrow, remember, those who fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” Under my breath l replied, “yes miss.”
I have creek brown eyes, light brown skin and unique black curly hair. That sentence echoed in my head as I treaded the lonely road to home. At home, I carefully set my bag on the floor and took out my thick Social Studies text. Cross-legged on the sofa I began reading page after page, soon I was fast asleep on the sofa with the book in my tender hand.
Early the next morning I woke up and started fretting, but when I saw the quantity I had read, I relaxed and was as bold as brass. I wanted get to school early so I would have adequate time to read the remainder.
Quickly, I showered, packed my bag and set off. I changed from a walk to a skip to a run. At school just as I was about to sit and chat with my friends the bell rang for the start of school.
Precisely at 9:30 we rose from our seats and trudged down the hallway to the Form 5 room. There, we were to have our test. For the first five minutes everyone was restless, but we eventually relaxed. I thought the test was a breeze. I checked back not once, not twice but thrice! I thought I was going to get a good score; others were not so sure.
On the day the results were published, I was trembling like a leaf. My teacher stood in front of the class and announced the scores. She finally got to the top three. Third place: Sharon Michelle with 90 points
Second place: Lila Thompson with 95 points
"Could it be?", I thought to myself.
First place: Melissa Evans with 100 points!
I was as happy as a lark, beaning with pride as I walked across the classroom to receive my badge. I was so elated I listened to my teacher’s advice, those who fail to prepare, prepare to fail. I did the opposite by passing to prepare and preparing to pass.
Catching Fish
Catching fish is a fun and exciting experience. Fishing is a way of spending time with your family and friends.
It was a warm sunny Saturday morning, when my mother who has dark brown complexion, locked hair and creek brown eyes, my friend Antonio and I, the petite nine-year-old with chocolate skin, hazelnut eyes and short curly hair went to a trench to fish.
I packed hooks, earthworms, a bucket, blanket, honey mustard wings, three bottles of water and two bottles of sprite in a wooden basket. We walked out on a long, broad jetty and settled ourselves down on our spot. The water was murky brown and I saw a school of greyish-silver fish, playing among themselves.
We decided to eat first because we were very hungry. We sat there and ate our scrumptious food and drink. Then we commenced fishing and caught a huge Mackerel, a Butterfish and a Bangamary.
It took quite a long time to get a catch. We were satisfied that we caught some fish, which we decided to keep as pets in our ponds at home.
After our satisfied catch, we got snow cones from the vendor parked under a tree. My mum relaxed on the blanket while browsing her phone. Antonio and I used the opportunity to play ring of roses and 123 red light statue before going home tired, but happy.
We had an excellent experience and we hope to do it again.
A day at the beach
One Monday morning during the July- August holiday my mother and I visited the peaceful, breezy Lily beach. I wore a red shirt that had the words, 'Play with heart' and red pants. My mother wore a black and red dress. We packed a small cooler with two bottles of sprite and some snacks before we set off.
I changed into my blue dolphin swimsuit and had a dip in the cool water. After I built sandcastles with my mother, she buried me in the sand and relaxed on our rainbow blanket and drank cold sprite.
As I laid there, I said to myself that I wanted to stay buried in the sand forever because it was relaxing. Unfortunately, my mum dug me out and then I took a long drink of my cold sprite. Yum! After playing two exciting games of dominoes, we jumped into the coke-colored water and played catch with a pink ball.
I enjoyed going to the beach because it was relaxing and fun. I do hope I will get to go back soon.
Expecting an adventure in Grade 4:2
My time in grade 3-2 was very fun and full of activities. I can’t wait to see what awaits me in grade 4-2. My teacher Yashodia was strict but I knew she was doing it for the best. I thought we had a lot to do. One of our topics was Natural Region and it took many days for the class to copy all the notes for that subject. My fingers hurt and I found the topic boring.
My friends were the best that I had because they comforted me when I was sad and we had lots of fun together. The quizzes were very challenging, but I did well because I studied very hard and I tried my best. I’m expecting to learn so much more in grade 4-2. I feel like I'm being reborn because it gives me the opportunity to be better. I will do better in my cursive handwriting and painting. I know there will be a lot of possibilities in grade 4-2.
