In a city called Berlin, Germany,  there was a tall wall that divided the city into two parts. East Berlin and West Berlin. This wall seperated people and their families and friends.

This wall was built in 1961 because of the differences between the governments of both sides. The leaders of East Germany, (communism) did not want its people to cross the border. So they built a wall.

For many years, people tried to escape, but fail. The people wanted freedom. Teses people started to speak up and demand change.

In 1989, the decision was made by the leaders of East Germany to take down the wall. People celebrated the fall of the berlin wall. Cheering and yelling in triumph.

Families and friends could finally reunite. The wall was finally gone. The people had gotten their freedom.

Now, there are still pieces of the wall on display as a reminder of how people work together to gain freedom and unity. Berlin is now ONE!
