"Mommy, can we stop by the bakers on our way home from school today?" Shelly asked; she was feeling hungry and cold since the weather was on the brink of winter. Mrs. Weldon said yes, and they headed over to Miles' Bakery Treats.    

On their way to the bakery, they found a black dog lying next to the door of the bakery. There was a sign resting on the dog that was written in sloppy quick handwriting.

Please, take care of this dog. I could not take him to the military with me, since I was called to fight. He is barely alive, and in a few hours may be called to God. Please, love him as best as you can, and if he lives, care for him please.

Shelly saw the dog, and couldn't help the tears pricking her eyes. The dog looked freezing, all that he had to warm himself was his thin coat of fur,  which had been blown away by the wind from his fragile self. The dog was drooling, and there was a puddle of water turning into ice very slowly. Shelly knelt down to hear his breathing; she heard it! But it was very very shallow.

Shelly looked up at Mrs. Weldon.

"Mommy please?!" she said, through tears, "he's...dying!" Mrs. Weldon nodded non-hesitantly, and immediately rushed over to the dog. She flipped the sign over and it read:

PS: The dog's name is Harry.
