There is something wonderful about recieving a parcel in the mail. This story is for those who like to receive "special deliveries".

Two weeks ago, there was a knock on the front door and Percy the Postman stood waiting with an exceptionally large parcel. Verity and I were so excited as a parcel from Postman Percy usually meant something for us both. Beanie and Huyey could not stop barking as they were excited too. The more they barked, the more excited we became. Verity climbed onto the sofa and jumped up and down. Mummy told us to settle so she could get the parcel. It was very heavy, so Postman Percy placed it inside of the front door.
“Hmm!” said Mummy. Verity and I both looked at one another and wondered what the parcel was. Mummy gave a big sigh and said, “We will need to wait till Daddy comes home from work!” Verity and I looked at the big box, and we both gave a big sigh. “Hmm!” we both said.
All day long, Verity and I kept going to the box to take a look. We thought it would magically open, but it did not. “Olly, shall we see if there is any writing on the box or a picture?” Verity said. We both took a look but could not see anything that would give us a clue. We just noticed Daddy’s name and our address. “Hmm!” we both said again.
Verity and I started to try to guess what was in the box. We thought if it was addressed to Daddy, that it was something for him. He has a bike, so maybe it was something to do with that. He likes to go skiing, but the box was too short for skis. “What if Daddy has bought something for Mummy?” Verity said. We did not know what Mummy really liked to do; that was something that big. We thought of pans and blankets. But the box was the wrong shape. The box was also very heavy so we thought it could not be perfume. “That would be a lot of perfume and chocolates for Mummy, if it was from Daddy!” I said out aloud. Both Verity and I just laughed and felt even more confused about the box.
We tried to keep ourselves busy and played in the lounge room so we could keep an eye on the box. It was like we felt it was safe if we were nearby. We looked out of the front window in anticipation of Daddy coming home. We looked at the clock to try to see what time it was. Even Beanie and Huyey could not work out what was going on. They would go and sniff the box to try to work out what they thought was inside. “It is not dog food!” I said to them both.
Before long, we saw a bright red van park in front of the house. “Daddy’s home!” Verity and I shouted excitedly. Beanie and Huyey barked and ran around in circles. We greeted Daddy at the door. Our smiles went from ear to ear, and it made it exceedingly difficult to speak. It was Mummy who said, “Postman Percy made a delivery today.” Daddy had an extremely big smile on his face. “Great news!” said Daddy. Daddy took off his coat, hat, and shoes. Verity and I stood like statues waiting to see what would happen next.
Daddy carried the heavy parcel to the dining table. He took a knife to open the box carefully and then pulled out a piece of paper. “This might take a while!” he said. Mummy made a cup of tea and Daddy sat and read the paper. We were still none the wiser of what the parcel was. Verity and I waited patiently. After drinking tea, munching on biscuits and Daddy reading, it was time to move the box again. This time, Daddy moved the box outside in the garden. Daddy made sure we all had our wellington boots on, and we went to the back of the garden.
Daddy pulled out long metal pieces and short metal pieces and what looked like two round plastic plates. He went to the shed and brought back a screwdriver. It took a while for Daddy to arrange the parts on the grass and then he started screwing pieces together. Daddy then moved quite quickly like he was putting a jigsaw together. He then stood back and said, “Ta dah!” Verity and I still looked at one another as we were not sure what it was that Daddy had made. “A seesaw!” he said.
Daddy took my hand and helped me sit on the seat at one end of the long pole. Daddy then placed Verity on the other end. Daddy showed us how we could both go up and down. It felt a little strange at first but then it became fun. Daddy then showed us how we could move around in circles. Both Verity and I were surprised that the seesaw had come out of a box. He called Mummy to come to take a look and Daddy and Mummy watched us on the seesaw. We played on the seesaw till dinner time.
