Maggie Pie is not just an ordinary girl. She absolutely loves nature. She loves it so much that she spends more then half of her day examining all the leaves and flowers in her backyard! People say that she spends to much time outside, and that she'll turn into a bug one day! But Maggie knows that that's not true. But as she was laying down in bed one day, she wondered if she could turn herself into a bug, and find the wonders of bugs herself! She would take pictures with her mini camera, and send them to the newspaper, then she would become famous! Well, maybe not that far.
She rolled over, then looked at her toy bug sitting on her bookshelf. She sighed, it would never happen, she thought, and went to bed dreaming of bugs.
The next morning she sprung up from her bed and raced up the stairs, her pants half way up her legs. She burst through the door leading to outside, and a tidal wave of heat burst through her stomach, and a whoosh of wind slapped her face around. She loved it!
She tiptoed over to an indent in the grass, being careful not to crush even the tiny bacteria living among the dirt. She sunk to the ground, her knees digging into her shirt. Her eyes widened, and a piece of dirt splattered up onto her cheek. She bent lower, and another piece of dirt stuck to her cheek. She cocked her head and bent lower still. Then, between to weeds of grass, was a little ladybug, making a home!
Maggie gasped, then bent lower, and scooped up the ladybug into her hand. Suddenly, something gleaming caught her eye and she dropped the ladybug. On top of the home full of sticks, was a golden leaf that gently flittered in the wind. Maggie slowly touched the leaf, and she felt her arm jerk backwards. She closed her eyes, while a very bright light filled her world. Next thing she knew, she was walking in a whole bug town, barely the size of a bug herself, her arms spread wide!
It was nothing like the real boring old world, it was...MAGICL!
Sparkling streams raced around like high-speed jets on the ground, bugs chattered in a language Maggie couldn't understand, golden leaves just like the one Maggie saw flittered down, landing on every little bug house, and the windows in cottages and shacks lit up the whole place like the sun!
"Wow!" Maggie whispered, her eyes not being able to take it all in.
Then, something tugged at her waist. Maggie looked down, and a little caterpillar the size of a mustard seed was peering up at her, its mouth moving rapidly.
"Excuse me," the caterpillar said in a high-pitched voice, "but who are you and what are you doing here?" it cocked its head up at Maggie, and that's when she noticed that all the bugs had stopped what they were doing, and was staring up at her.
