The Ampullae of Lorenzini, a group of sensory organs,
allows sharks to detect the electrical fields created by
prey animals.




Bb
Hammerhead sharks do not have bones.
The skeleton is made out of cartilage.




Their coloration can be used as a type of
camouflage called countershading. When
viewed from above the dark side of the shark
blends in with the depths of the ocean.

Hammerhead shark's diet consist of small
fish, sting rays, lobsters and shrimps. They
hunt for these animals at night.

The hammerhead shark's eyes are placed on
each end of their wide head.

The great hammerhead is the largest. It can grow up
to be 20 feet long!

Their skin is normally light gray with greenish tint on
top. They have white bellies at the bottom.

Hammerhead sharks hunt alone and can find
stingrays that hide under the sand.

In addition to being able to hear sounds, their
inner ear is used to pick up acceleration.

Hammerhead sharks have small jaws, and
triangular shaped teeth.

Sphyma Mokarran is the scientific name for the
great hammerhead shark.

The lifespan of most hammerhead sharks can
range between 25 and 35 years.

During the summer, Hammerhead sharks
migrate in large groups to search for cooler
waters.

Hammerhead sharks like to live in warm parts of the
ocean. They swim near coastlines around the world.

Their extra-tall, pointed dorsal fins are easily
identifiable.




They can be considered quirky as they are
known to make sharp turns randomly.




Rr
Hammerhead sharks can be found around reefs.
One common reef is the Great Barrier Reef.
