Some-kin, some-kin, someone took my pumpkin.
I found it at the market square, and then I placed
it over there.

Beside the nuts, next to the cone;
why didn't they leave it alone?

And how they got it down this tree
is really quite a mystery!

But they left a trail for me to track.
I think I'll go and get it back.

Around the rock and down the hole?
It must have been that whiskery mole!

In a hole this big, could a pumpkin hide?
But look; more tracks on the other side.

Into the woods and through the pine.
Will I ever find that pumpkin of mine?

Maybe it was that spooky night owl.
I just don't trust that kind of fowl.

Through the swamp and over a log.
I think it might have been that frog.

She hid it under her lilly pad!
But if she did, then why's she sad?

Chances are that I'm in luck.
It probably was that quacky duck!

He must have rolled it in the lake.
He thinks he's such a clever drake.

More tracks lead straight towards that farm.
I hope it hasn't come to harm.

A sly old fox; he can't trick me!
It's in the hen house; just wait and see.

No pumpkin could ever fit in there.
This trail goes on to, "who knows where?"

This is a book about misplacing things. I use rhyme and reason to show how assumptions can easily be mistaken for proof, while introducing a simple lesson about retracing one's steps to find misplaced or missing items. I dedicated this book to my mother, who loves fall almost as much as she loves playing hide and seek with objects that go missing. :)
