Woosh. Woosh. The sound of waves and a
strong, ocean scent filled the air. The hot July
sun shone down on the sandy shore. Here lied
lots of families of animals.

In this group of many families was a family of
hatching sea turtles. One by one, the baby sea
turtles crawled out of their burrow and
scrambled across the beach. It was the start of
their adventurous journeys into the ocean.

Most of the sea turtles were excited to swim
into the ocean. One sea turtle named Timothy
was left behind, curled up inside the burrow.
He was scared about having to go on his own
into sea.

Timothy couldn’t bear to think about entering
the cold water on his own. What if he drowned?
What if he got eaten? Couldn’t he just live
inside this warm burrow and wait for his mom
to come back?

He needed his mom to help him into the ocean,
so Timothy waited. And he waited. And waited.
Soon, he heard a loud grumble in his tummy.
He was forced to climb out of his burrow and
look for food.

Suddenly, overhead, Timothy heard the
flapping of wings and the sound of a seagull
cry. Oh no, it was Sabrina the Seagull!

“Well, well, well, hey there Timothy,” Sabrina
said to Timothy as she flew down to the sand.
“Hi Sabrina,” Timothy replied.
“All your brothers and sisters are in the ocean
and you’re still here? Scaredy-cat!” Sabrina
teased.
“I’m not a scaredy-cat!” Timothy exclaimed.

“You’ll never be able to make it into
the ocean because you’re too scared.
Have fun little Timothy,” Sabrina
sneered and flew off.
“She’s right,” Timothy thought to
himself. He would stay and starve
here all alone. There was no point in
trying anymore.

Timothy slowly curled up in his shell
and waited for everything to be over.
He was never going to make it into
the sea. He would never be able to
swim with his brothers and sisters.

Tap. Tap. Tap. What was that noise?
Tap. Tap. Tap. Someone was tapping on
Timothy’s shell. Who could it be?
Timothy peeked his head out of his
shell to take a look.

“Hi there!” a small crab greeted Timothy.
Timothy replied, “Who are you?”
“My name is Charles. What’s your name?” the
crab asked.
“I’m Timothy.”
“What are you doing here all by yourself?
Shouldn’t you be in the sea already?” Charles
questioned.
