Ola! My name is Miguel. I live in Arizona with my 

Dad, Gustavo. He is an archaeologist and 

sometimes he takes me out to watch his team dig. 

I'm not sure what they're looking for though.

While his team is digging, I get to do some 

exploring as well.   I just can't wander off too far. I 

wouldn't want to get lost in the desert. 

Oh cool! I found a baby lizard! "Hi there little guy" I 

said. He was so tiny and cute. I had to go show my Dad 

my new friend.

"Look what I found Papa. A baby lizard. I'm going to 

name him Pedro." "I'm sorry Miguel. You're going to 

have to put him back. He belongs here in the desert" 

my Dad said.   "But Papa!"   "It's time to go son." 

I pretended to put Pedro back but actually slipped him into 

my pocket. I was able to sneak him into the jeep. I'd have to 

keep Pedro a secret from my Dad. I just couldn't leave the 

cute little guy behind.

When I got home, I found an old aquarium and put 

Pedro inside. I placed some rocks, dirt, twigs, and grass 

inside to make him feel comfortable. 

After doing some reading, I realized that looking after 

a lizard is a lot of work. I had to keep him warm and 

fed. That meant feeding him crickets. Ewww! It would 

be expensive to keep him as a pet. Did I make a 

mistake in taking him home?
