fear would get in his way.

Courage

One day Jake asked his father what helped him to be brave. His
father simply replied, "I take time to pray. Whether it's a mountain of
problems or your deepest fear, God will help you. He is always near."

Courage

about it?

Jake thought for awhile. Then he prayed, "God, please help me
for today is the day! I want to conquer this mountain that keeps
getting in my way."

Conquer Fear

So Jake packed his pack, and he put it on his back and started up
the mountain path. He walked and he climbed and he climbed and
he walked, but soon he grew tired and decided to stop.

Jake found a spot beneath some trees where he could rest in the cool mountain
breeze. He put down his pack and began to sit down when he heard a scary,
hissing sound.

A very large snake suddenly appeared. Jake was afraid and stepped back
in fear. The snake lifted his head as he flicked his fork tongue. Then he said
to Jake, "Why haven't you run?"

Jake tried to look strong but could hear his voice shake as he replied to
this unusual snake, "I'm climbing this mountain to prove I am brave
and I will not let anything stand in my way."

The snake slithered closer, "So you want to be brave? I'll show you how, unless
you're afraid. Follow me to a place just beyond these trees, and I'll help you prove
your bravery."

Jake heard a soft whisper, "Don't listen.
Run away." But Jake was determined to
prove he was brave.

He followed the snake down a very dark path that caused him
to worry if he should turn back. The path grew darker and
darker, with no end in sight. Jake had a feeling, something just
was not right.

Jake turned to go back but the snake blocked his path. The
snake flashed his fangs and prepared to attack. Jake
grabbed his pack and with one MIGHTY SMACK...

...sent that snake flying so far he would never come back.

Jake had learned a brave lesson
on how to be strong and trust
the wise whisper when
something is wrong.

Jake picked up his pack, and put it on his back and continued up the
mountain path. He walked and he climbed and he climbed
and he walked, and although he was tired he did not stop.

He followed the path making turn after turn, until he heard a loud "ROAR" that
caused him concern. Jake was afraid but did not stop. He was just a short hike
from the mountain top.

Jake heard something move and then saw through the trees the
shadowy figure of a very large BEAST!

He climbed until he heard a very loud "ROAR" and this time it was much
closer than before.
