These are the things I do with my mom, to help my
mom stay healthy from her disease.
Her disease is addiction.
What this means is that alcohol used to make my
mom sick, but now she is better and I help my mom
stay healthy so that she does not get sick again.

Sometimes we dance, and sometimes we play.
We do this because exercise helps to keep both of
us healthy.

My mom and I do art projects together, because
she says it helps her relax from stress.
She says that stress is kind of like when I feel
worried, and that working all day makes her feel
worried.
To get rid of the worry we make all kinds of
beautiful art that takes the stress away.

Also, My mom goes to meetings. She goes to them
all the time. She calls them her AA meetings.
She tells me that going to these meetings makes
her happy and healthy. Her friends go too. They all
have the same disease of addiction and they help
each other with it.
When she comes home from her meetings I make
sure to tell her that I am proud of her for going.

My mom also goes to health meetings where she
talks about her feelings and her disease with
someone called a counselor.
She says that it is hard to talk about those things
at her meetings, so I make sure to give her a big
hug when I see her. I also tell her that she is the
best mom in the world.
