Ω For many thousands of years, the ancient Chinese believed in many gods and goddesses.
Ω They also believed in dragons and spirits.
Ω Ancestors were very important to Chinese people.

Government of Ancient China
Ω China was ruled in dynasties. A dynasty is a family of rulers.
Ω China had about 27 dynasties in a period of before history to 1911.
Ω Dynasties were chosen based on the Mandate of Heaven. This means that the Chinese Supreme God chooses when a new family rules and when it is overthrown.

Ancient Chinese Writing
Ω Ancient Chinese people invented a system of writing that everyone can write and read.
Ω Each Chinese letter had a certain meaning, not sound, like in English.
Ω Chinese letters are considered art and still practiced today.

Ancient Chinese Technology
Ω China invented many useful things that we use today.
Ω The Chinese built many impressive
buildings like the Great Wall of China.
Ω Some of their inventions were silk, the compass, paper, and printing.

Society of Ancient China
Ω People in the cities worked a variety of jobs, including merchants, craftsmen, government officials, and scholars.
Ω Farmers had to work for the government for about one month each year.
Ω The Chinese family was ruled by the father of the house.

How Ancient China Ended
Ω China ended because:
1. A refusal to trade
2. An uprising against foreign control
3. The effect from a change of monarchy to a democracy.
