After the Gracchus brother's death, the city went into turmoil and civil wars. Their attempt to bring reforms had failed.

The senate wanted to take control like it had in the past. But popular political leaders wanted to weaken the senate and create reforms. Thus a war broke out.

The turmoil also created private riots. Slaves created uprisings and revolts against Rome allies.

Old legions of Roman citizen soldiers became professional armies who became loyal only to their commanders. Commanders then marched into Rome to advance their ambitions.

Out of this chaos came a famous general. He dominated the Roman Republic and even became dictator. His name is...

Once upon a time, There was a Roman dictator named Julius Caesar. He grew as one of the greatest emperors through roman History.

He had an army that always won. in 58 BC, they were sent to make new conquests. Nine years later, they had taken over Gaul, or modern day France and Belgium.

Pompey was another great general who dominated Roman politics with him. But he was afraid of Caesar's success. So he asked the senate to stop his army.

Disband Caesar's army and send him back to Rome for he does not deserve it.

Julius Caesar found out about Pompey's rant, and he defied the order. Outraged, Caesar sent out his army.

He led his army across Rubicon River and into Rome. From there, he plunged his army into another civil war.

I came, I saw, I conquered

He crushed Pompey and his supporters. Continuing his victory, he went around the Mediterranean and suppressed rebellions.

He forced the senate to give him dictatorship. He became the absolute leader of Rome, even though he maintained the senate and other republic features.
