Scatter's Quest A New Home

2
Once upon a time, deep in Africa, where the mountains meet the rivers and the rivers stretch through the savannas and the savannas end at the edge of the tropical forest......
A dark cloud lowered over foggy, Greenfeld.
A voice whispers "Leave now little ones,
Leave now, before it's too late!"
Animals of the Glen scurried for advice.
"The wise old tortoise will know what to do!"
Adira, the wisest of all animals begins to speak.
3

Where shall
we go?!
4
"In ancient days, the Great Mountain Mother of fire and stone breathed upon our land. A thick black cloud descended and all was lost."
"We must move now, before it's too late! But who possesses the sacred ring of journeys. Who will lead us and where shall we go, warned Adira?"
All animals look at one another in bewilderment.
A small pygmy mouse named Scatter, shyly
speaks in a soft, squeeky voice..."I have the Ring!"

5

I have the Sacred Ring of journeys....
No!
No!
No! No! Not Scatter!

Not Scatter!

6
"I will lead." Scatter's voice cracked as he tried to speak up.
"What can a pygmy mouse do to save us all?"
Said, Mrs. Guinea Fowl.
"He's not even a climbing mouse" "No way!"
Shouted a group of African Climbing mice.
"No! No! Not Scatter!"
Screamed the Colobus monkey and Bush pig.
Scatter lowered his head. Eyes filled with shame and doubt, he said nothing.
The Bontebok, Porcupine, Talapoin, the Banded Civet and Genet, the Hyrax and Giant slug looked on with doubting eyes. The Aarvark and Sable antelope simply ignored all the fuss. The Blue stork landed, confused.

Sacred Ring of Journeys
Scatter

8
An Orphan, Scatter is the only Pygmy Mouse in Greenfeld. He is different and always alone.
"My mom and Dad abandoned me but I survived here in Greenfeld," he boast.
"Every time I approach other young animals, to play, they scatter. It happened so many times, they call me Scatter. I have this weird marking on my tail. Yep, I'm different," chuckled scatter.
"Ernie, the wise Eagle Owl, has watched and cared for me. He tells me stories about my parents. Ernie is my only family now."
9

10
Later that evening, Adira returned to the clearing. She saw the Eagle-Owl gliding above. The Blue and Proboscis monkeys, the elephant and Bonko, the Banded Mongoose and Honey Badger were discussing who should lead the animals to their new home.
"Who will join Scatter and lead us to safety," demanded Adira.
"Who is the voice that warns us to leave, anyway?" snickered the Gray parrot. "No one knows!
Shall we all vanish because some strange voice says so or is it a trick?"
11

We will Join you!
12
Once again, the night came and so did the thick black cloud. An eerie voice penetrated the mist. "Leave now, little ones, leave now, before its too late!"
The next day, Scatter roamed an open field, nervously gathering courage for the journey.
Suddenly, three animals approached from the west, Tusker, the strong and noble elephant, Henry, the courageous Honey Badger and Ernie, the sharp sighted Eagle-Owl.
"We will join you on your quest, little Scatter. Your cunning and stealth will be needed along the way."
13

14
"But first we must consult the Tree of Life," said Tusker. On the edge of Greenfeld, they came across a huge, strange looking Baobab tree.
"Scatter, you must enter the giant 'Tree of Life' through the African bee hive. Seek the Queen bee and ask for her help," said Tusker.
Scatter was cunning and poured honey all over his body. Sticky and scared, he entered the hive.
The Queen Bee liked his scent and gave him a potion. "Drink this, little mouse, and you will possess the power of the Tree," she said. "Call my bees and they will appear at your command!"
"Wow, a swarm of African bees to the rescue," Scatter grinned. He sipped some of the potion but saved the rest for his friends.
The Queen Bee buzzingly, announced, "Listen..........the Tree of Life speaks!"
"Young heroes you must travel to the Mountain of Dreams where the rainbow ends. There, all your questions will be answered," barked the tree.
15

Sereeeeech! Tingle, Tingle!

16
Scatter emerged from the honey comb, sticky but with a new found confidence. He gave the potion to Henry, the Honey Badger, who drank it and let out a spine tingling screech. "Screeeeeeech....Tingle, Tingle!"
In a flash, the African bees swarmed above Henry. A Drone bee spoke.
"If you ever need us, screech, but only if you must!"
The unlikely band of heroes headed for the 'Mountain of Dreams'.
What would they find there?
Why was it named the "Mountain of Dreams"?
17

18
They climbed the Mountain of Dreams and slept at the top before entering the valley below. The heroes dreamed of the predators that were planning to ambush them on their trip home.
They also dreamed of the future. Each hero had a different dream and kept it a secret.
The morning revealed a beautiful valley of peace, and tranquility. "Our new home. We'll call it Magnifeld", bellowed Scatter!
The band of heroes couldn't wait to return home to tell the others and share their tales.
19
Magnifeld

20
The dreams of the Mountain filled their heads as they started for Greenfeld.
In their dreams, the 'Mystery Voice' spoke of a time when there were too many animals.
The 'Voice' promised the mice, cunning and stealth. All predators were given speed, power and special talents, in order to survive. That's how the game of life began. The game of hide and seek continues on today.
Now, the heroes must use all of their cunning, stealth and special talents, to survive the quest!
21
22
Little did they know, the predators of the glen knew about the future journey of the animals. and positioned themselves all along the journey's path, waiting to attack.
Would Scatter and his heroes prevail or perish?
(pause)
Flying high above, Ernie, the Eagle-Owl, sighted the predators, hidden in the thicket. Scatter and the heroes, changed their plans and decided to take the long way home. This was a long and dangerous trek.
"First we must pass through the "Swamp of Mists" said Ernie"! What awaits them in this strange, place?
