Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12th, 1809. He lived in Shrewsbery, England, and was the second youngest of six kids.
Darwin's family has many scientists
in it, like his dad and grandpa. They
hoped one day he would be a
scientist, too. Darwin's family was
very wealthy.

At age 16, Charles enrolled at Edinburgh University. Two years later, he attended Christ's College in Cambridge.

When Darwin graduated in1831, his college mentor John Henslow recommended him for a naturalist position on the HMS Beagle.

The voyage of the HMS
was to take five years. During the course of the trip, Darwin collected natural specimen from all over the world.

When the HMS Beagle visited the Galapagos Islands, Darwin was fascinated. In the Galapagos, Darwin learned all about plants, animals, and the geology. He loved it all!

Darwin's trip to the Galapagos impacted his studies a lot. He began to get very interested in creating a theory for evolution!
Charles Darwin soon became aware of similarities among species all over, but that the species varied based on location.
