I am apparently “the perfect girl”, but only CeCe, my best friend, knows that I do not care about being this girl. Our story begins on Valentine’s day, which was a Wednesday, at South Side Middle School, a.k.a. SSMS. I walk into school hearing kids screaming and feeling the worries of 6th grade girls and boys because it is Valentine’s day. Today, most boys in 6th grade at our school tell the girls that they like the girl and ask them to the middle school dance. Troy is the coolest boy in our grade and apparently he likes me. Today is when I find out if Troy liking me is a rumor or the truth.

My best friend and I, CeCe, were in math class on Wednesday. Troy and his best friend were also in our class, along with Becca, my friend-enemy who likes Troy. At the end of class, Troy came up to me with his best friend backing him up, and CeCe was helping me out as well. It was kinda like a scene out of a movie or book.
Troy said while he handed me this beautiful, bright red rose that was too beautiful to even describe, “Hi Ashley, I just wanted to tell you I like you a lot and I was wondering if you would like to go to the dance with me on Friday night.”
I was so embarrassed because I was asked in front of my whole class. I turned around to see CeCe helping me out and asked her what I should say. I could tell she wished Chad asked her to the dance because she liked Chad a lot.

I said in reply to Troy , “I will let you know sometime tomorrow and I will hold on to the rose until tomorrow.
”After math class, CeCe and I went down to the cafeteria to get a snack and talk about what just happened. She and I hang out any time we have a chance. She also comes over every single day after school and we do our homework together and of course talk.
We sat down and I questioned her about being asked to the dance.
Before she could reply, Becca came up to me and shouted, “Why are you trying to steal the boy I like, when you know I like him?”
By the way, before CeCe moved here in the 4th grade, Becca and I were best friends and would not leave each other's sides. Everything changed when I went to basketball camp in summer going into 4th grade and met Cece, and ever since we have been besties. Sadly, Becca was very mad and decided to not like CeCe and not be friends with her anymore.

I replied in a quiet voice to Becca, “I can not control who asks me. I am so sorry.” “If you say yes to Troy your life will be ruined and I will get that rose. Also I will make your best friend, CeCe, hate you.” Becca replied.
The next day I lost the rose that Troy gave me. I was devastated, but this really brought something to my mind. Losing this rose reminds me I am a very independent girl who can live without a boy in middle school. One day I will marry a very nice man, but today is not the day. I was very sad but I am glad that losing the rose was an eye opening experience. This made me realize I need to keep this important relationship I have with CeCe as a friend.
When I came home from school with CeCe, my mom had laid the rose on my bed, and that is when I knew I was going to go to the dance with my BFF, CeCe.
