This is the Fraction Wizard. He is going
to take you on a magical journey to explore
our world and the fractions in them.

Fractions can be tricky. So lets start
of with a simple definition. Fractions
are equal parts of a whole. They are made up
of a numerator and a denominator.

Now lets see if we can identify and
understand fractions.Here we have a 1 whole pizza with 8 slices.

So if we wanted to express this pizza as a
fraction we could say or eight eights.
But what if the Wizard ate a slice.....

I am kinda
hungry....

What fraction of the pizza would he have eaten?

Well each slice equals 1 part out of the
whole which was 8. So then we could
say the Wizard ate ......

!Right! One-eights of the pizza!

Okay lets try something harder. Here you have a flower
which has 6 petals.As a fraction we can write that as      .
        we say that as sixth sixths.

would we have removed?

of six.......how do I
write that as a fraction

Well we started with 6 and removed 2.
So 2 petals out of six can be written as
the fraction . You would say this
fraction as two sixths. But we aren't
finished yet.....

Fractions can be reduce or simplified. This means
that a number a single number or factor can divide evenly
into both the nominator and the denominator.

So is there a number that divides evenly
into both 2 and 6? I know that two and
three divide evenly into 6
