Anything that is found in nature that can be used by living things is a natural resource. This includes water, forests, fossil fuels, minerals, plants, animals and even air.

Trees and other plants also produce oxygen which we need to breathe and help keep the earth from over heating. If we cut down all the trees what might happen to the animals that live there? And to us?

Water is a really important natural resource. All living things need fresh water to live. We drink it, wash in it, cook with it, get food from it, grow plants with it and many other things.

This is iron ore that has been dug up from a mine. We use iron ore to make metal called steel. Can you list some things made of steel? Turn over to see some objects made of steel.

All of these objects are made of steel!

Coal, oil and natural gas are all fossil fuels. They form deep in the Earth from dead plants and animals. It takes millions of years for them to form.
We use these fuels to make our cars, heaters, ovens, aeroplanes, buses, trains and many other items, work.

This is a coal station that produces electricity it also causes lots of pollution!

Oil is a natural resource as it comes from nature we use it to fuel our cars and make plastic objects.
