The year is 1913 and the last emperor of the Meiji era has passed away and the country now has a new Emperor. The new emperor of Japan is uncertain whether or not pursue a policy of isolation or adaptation. He has asked his number one advisor to help him.
2

Tell me my advisor! Should I pursue a policy of adaptation or isolation?
I think, Emperor, that you should pursue a policy of adaptation, and here's why-!
3

It's true that adaptation has its pros like having lond periods of peace, a stable and loyal society, less risk of terrorism, and Japan was able to focus on itself, developing thriving cities and increasing internal trade.
4

But it also has its cons! We will have no allies if we are ever in a war, our external trade will decrease, leading to a less stable economy, and Japan will be left behind again as other countries are developing their technology and military because we won't be able to share ideas with them and experience their different cultures!
5

I will not lie to you, Emperor. Adaptation has it's cons as well. With adaptation we would be at risk of being attacked by other countries, and there is also the greater chance of war breaking out. Western knowledge also goes against many of our traditional beliefs. The samurai and daimyos will not be happy since they do not profit from increased internal trade But I believe the pros far outweigh the cons!
6

Even if we were to be attacked and war broke out, at least we know that we would have allies to help us. We will establish a modern navy and army that will be loyal to us. We will be able to experience other cultures and borrow knowledge from the other countries, improving our own. Our country will have universities established, and there will be a diverse amount of intellectual and political thoughts! Making our country just as smart, if not, smarter, than the other countries!
