My big sister Leslie recently started high school. My Dad bought a computer for her to use for her courses. Unfortunately, Leslie spends most of her time on some website called "Chitchat" talking to her friends and sometimes strangers. That part worries me.

Chat Room:
Leslie: OMG! Did you see that cute guy in math class today?
Sally: LOL! I sure did. I think he likes you.
Leslie: SMH! He's way too cute for me!

Leslie was always a good student but she was spending too much time chatting with her friends online. It's the family's computer but it was supposed to be for her to type assignments and do research, not girl talk. Leslie's first report card wasn't very good so my Dad took the computer away for a couple of weeks.

Leslie's grades slowly started to improve as she spent time away from the computer. As a reward, my Dad said she could use the computer again but for only 30 minutes a night. What he didn't know was that Leslie would sneak downstairs when everyone was sleeping and start chatting with her friends. She would be exhausted the next day. But that would be the least of her worries.
7

Chat Room:
J.D.: I saw you at school. You're not very pretty and nobody likes you.
Leslie: ????
8
Leslie started chatting with some kid named "J.D." who said that he went to her school. At first he was very nice and they just talked about fun things. But soon J.D started to say mean things to Leslie. He knew a lot about her because she told him so much personal information. She began feeling awful about herself and was too afraid to tell my parents about J.D. and what he said.
9

10
Soon Leslie started having problems sleeping. Her grades were slipping again and she was never hungry often going without dinner. Whatever it was J.D. was saying had really upset her. She became very quiet and spent most of the time in her room. However, she still kept chatting online. She just couldn't stop.
11

12
Eventually Leslie started skipping school. Other times she would pretend to be sick so she wouldn't have to go. Yet despite the way she felt, she kept going back on the computer where J.D. was waiting with more cruel comments. I didn't want to tattletale on my sister so I waited for her to tell our parents what was going on. But she still couldn't do it and so my Dad took the computer away again.

I was very worried about my sister. She always looked after me at school and at home. She helped me with my homework and when I was feeling blue. She didn't deserve this. Nobody does. This J.D. guy was a bad person who hid behind a computer to say terrible things. This had to stop and I was the one who would end it. But how? For all I knew he could live in another country.

16
The next day at school I told my two best friends, Kip and Henry. They promised to keep everything a secret. "Wow, that's rough dude" Kip said. "Wish we could help but we don't know anything about computers. Wait a minute! I think I know somebody who can help us" Henry added. "No......not Irving!" "He's your only hope. He knows a lot about computers." "Sigh. Alright."
17

18
After school we headed over to Irving's house. "Hi Mrs. Smedley, is Irving home?" "Oh yes, just a minute. Irving your playmates from school are here?" "Send them up to my room and treat them all to a tall glass of prune juice." "Playmates?" Kip said. "Prune juice?" I winced. "Ah, welcome to "Irving's Idea Emporium"....also known as my bedroom" he laughed and snorted.
