I am about to take you on a journey of my literacy experiences! From kindergarten to university my interest and ability to tackle reading or writing has grown and suffered at different times. My journey has shown me the importance of literacy in our daily lives and I hope it will encourage you to think about your own literacy journey and the importance it had in your life!

Bedtime Story Time
When I was little my mom and dad would read bedtime stories to my brothers and I. We would put on our pyjama's, snuggle into bed, and anticipate the new story we would hear that night. The stories were always extremely colourful and were accompanied by my parents silly voices for each character. Bedtime story time was something we loved and looked forward to each night, it sparked my interest in reading and prepared me for my literacy journey in elementary school!

Kindergarten - Love You Forever,
By Robert Munsch
In kindergarten, we were asked to learn one line from the story Love You Forever and recite it to our mothers on mothers day. This is my first memory of reading because of how proud and happy I was to be reading in front of my mother, our class, and my classmates mothers. This story is about a mother and sons unbreakable bond and has become symbolic of my mom and I's relationship, it is a story that we will both cherish for years to come.

Grade Two - Pen Pals!
Having pen pals in the second grade was one of the coolest steps within my literacy journey! Our class wrote to grade two students in Prince Edward Island, we asked them about what they were learning and what life was like in the maritimes! Writing to someone created purpose behind my writing. I was able to communicate my feelings and thoughts so easily. Today, I love writing and sending letters to my 89 year old grandmother in Prince Edward Island.

Grade Four - Discovering Novels!
This was the grade that I started to love reading! My teacher assigned a book report and let the students choose which book to do it on. I chose a book from the magic tree house series. These books were magically exciting, and included a few illustrations which heightened my interest even more! I discovered that reading what I was interested in was extremely important. I continued to read books within the Magic Treehouse series as well as others that had elements of mystery and fantasy throughout my years in elementary school!
