John woke up at 7 AM sharp. He got out of bed and stretched, thinking, "This is going to be a great day". He got out of his pajamas, ate breakfast, and packed his bag for school. The sun shined bright as he waiting for the bus to come. Chirp-chirp. The birds were singing beautifully. He got on the bus after waving off his parents, then prepared himself for school.

John triumphantly marched up to the bus stop. The bus turned the corner and stopped, making a loud "whoosh" noise. John hopped on the bus, where he was greeted by his friends. "So guys," John declared, "you should all put your hopes on it being a great day." Many of his friends cheered in response. The bus started going into the bus-loop as the talkative children settled down. "Cya," each of his friends exclaimed, before walking off in the direction of the school.

John walked triumphantly in the halls, while many questioned his bold behavior. Class went smoothly except for the end of it; HOMEWORK. John whimpered at the word "homework" before, but now he was crushed. Today wasn't just any normal day. The cause of John's pride was that he was going to go to a tennis tournament, and he couldn't miss it! The rest of the day was filled with the anxiety of having no time to do homework. He would be in deep trouble if he missed a homework assignment!
John boarded the yellow bus with a glum look on his face. "Why the long face?" his friend asked. "I have a tennis tournament and I can't miss it, but I can't miss my homework either," John mumbled. Loud talking. "What was that?" his best friend asked. "Never mind..." John declared. "If you're having trouble with the homework, we could work on it together," another friend suggested. "It's not that I don't know HOW to do the homework, it's just that I don't have time," John replied. "Well, you could always hand it in late, or maybe do it when you get home," his friend suggested. "Good idea, just that once I come home, I'll have to sleep," John said with a sigh. The bus stopped, and John got up in response. "Good luck, John," his friends encouraged.

John ran home as fast as his legs could carry him. By the time he got to the door, he was panting and sweating. "Woah, what happened?" his mom asked, opening the door for him. "...homework," John wheezed. "How much?" his mother asked. "A lot," John muttered. "Alright, let's get to work! But first, eat the snack on the table," his mom exclaimed. John ate crackers and drank milk, while working out the problems with his mother. An alarm started ringing. "Time's up," John's mom commented, looking disappointingly at John's unfinished homework. "It's okay, Mom! I'll do it when I get home," John exclaimed. "Hmm, but it'll be past your bedtime..." John's mom replied. "I'll finish it when I get home. After all, we finished most of it," John declared, hope radiating from him.

John looked out the window of his Mom's baby blue car. He had tried to do homework in the car, ignoring the fact that he was incredibly prone to getting carsick. "John, don't do your homework here or you might puke on the carpet of the car," his mom commented. "I'll stick my head out the window every few sentences, if that makes you feel any better," John said. "It won't matter, we're already here," his mom checked. The tennis court. John had never felt so stressed at the tennis court. Of course, John was good enough to hit the ball back and forth, but John had been concentrating on his homework, sending his coach in a fury when the ball came straight at his racket and he missed it. "John, is there something wrong?" the coach asked. "No, coach, it's fine. I'm just a little tired, is all," John lied. The coach gave John a skeptical look, then turned and walked away.

John decided to forget about his homework. It's not as if one late homework could change his grade completely. John concentrated as the sounds of tennis balls hitting rackets filled the air. Thwack-thwack-thwack. John eventually got to the top and beat the 4-year junior champion. John celebrated as his family and friends came to congratulate him. He raised his plastic trophy up high. "It really was a great day," John shouted into the air with a smile on his face. Then, just like that, he fell asleep. His parents carried him to the car, then drove home.

John woke up in bed, tucked in, and in his pajamas. He got up and rubbed his eyes. He grabbed his phone next to him. "11:30 pm". He looked around him, and saw his homework. He quickly grabbed it and began answering more questions. Knock-knock. John looked at the door as his dad walked in. "Son?" his dad asked. "What are you doing, up in the middle of the night?" "Homework, Dad. I didn't get to finish it," John responded. "...Why don't I help you out?" his dad suggested. The two of them started working, and a few minutes later, they finished the homework. "Thanks, Dad," John said sleepily, as he yawned. His dad nodded. "Get some sleep, alright?" "Okay, Dad. Good night," John said, drifting to sleep.
