The American Revolution
In 1775 the thirteen U.S Colonies entered into The Revolutionary War in hopes of freedom from Great Britain. In 1783 the American Revolution ended giving the United States freedom from Great Britain.
Articles of Confederation
Written in 1777, the Articles of Confederation was used by the Continental Congress to direct the Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, it did not have the power tax the states. This led to the army not having enough money to work well.
The signing of the Constitution
On September 17, 1787 the United States Constitution was signed. In June 1788 the Constitution was adopted as the Constitution of the United States, after 9 of the 13 states voted to make it the Constitution.
Checks and Balances
Checks and Balances is the system used by the United States of America to keep the government from getting too powerful in one branch.
The branches of government are:
The Executive Branch,
The Legislative Branch, and
The Judicial Branch.
