Hays loved to be held in Papaw's strong, loving arms.

They'd go to see trains and they'd go to see farms.

They'd go and get ice cream.

They'd fish with a spinner.

"Have fun!" Mom would say, "But don't be late for dinner!"

Hays and Papaw LOVED to play!

They'd go to the playground almost every day.

Hays would climb up the slide, and then slide down with style.

He loved to feel Papaw's big hug and big smile!

Off they went to the playground to play until five, but as Papaw and Hays made their way toward the slide...

Hays noticed a breeze, a cool wind on his toe. It got colder and colder as the wind started to blow.

"Hays you need new sneakers," Papaw said with a frown, "Come with me little Nugget and we'll go into town."

So they drove into town with Hay's toe sticking out,

and he giggled and wiggled it 'round and about.

Papaw parked the car and they started to walk,

Then Hays noticed a man and they started to talk.

"Do you see that man Papaw? That man on the street?

He's a very sad man with no shoes on his feet."

"His feet," stated Papaw, "must be cold and be wet."

And Hays wondered if there was a way they could get,

Shoes for this man, so his feet would be warm.

To protect them from pebbles, and keep them from harm.
