Many moons ago, a great chief of the Indian Nations
decided his young, brave daughter should have the finest
horse in the land.
His daughter was named Brave Eagle. The name was given
to her by the gods when she was born. He did not know
until she became a young girl why she was given that
name. She was as brave as a wolf and as smart as an
Eagle. Her people depend on her for their survival.

The Chief said, “My special daughter needs a special
horse. The horse must be the fastest, the strongest, and
the smartest horse in all the land.”
The best warrior of the land was summoned by the
Chief and was asked where the best horse could be
found. The warrior said, “My Chief, all the warriors know
of the best horse, but no one has ever been able to ride
him. He runs free across the land. He is very swift, very
strong, and very smart. Many warriors have tried to
ride him, but no one has been able to mount him. His
name is Angry Lightning.”

The Chief said, “I want my brave young daughter,
Brave Eagle, to have this horse to ride. If there is
anyone Angry Lightning will surrender himself to, it
will be Brave Eagle. She can talk to the animals
and she is favored by the gods.”
The next day all the warriors rode out of camp with
Brave Eagle to find Angry Lightning. There in the
distance on top of a hill was a magnificent brown
muscular horse. He started to run with the wind. It
had to be Angry Lightning. No other horse could
run that fast.

“Brave Eagle,” said the warriors. “How can we
make the chief’s command come true? Angry
Lightning will not come to us.” Brave Eagle said,
“Go back to the camp and I will ride Angry
Lightning back to our camp.” “But how?” asked
the braves. Brave Eagle said, “You shall see. I
know how to speak the language of horse.”
Before the sun went down, Brave Eagle returned to
the camp on the back of Angry Lightning. All the
Indians gathered around her and the horse in
amazement. What a magnificent animal! The
bravest of all Indians was sitting proud on its back.
