Hey there! My name is Huckleberry Finn, but you can call me Huck. I'm gonna tell you about my adventure down the Mississippi.
I used to live with the Widow Douglas and Miss. Watson but I didn't like that much. They had too many rules! I had to be clean all the time and go to school.

Wash your hands first!

Even with all the rules, I could still have fun with my friends. Tom Sawyer is so smart and comes up with the best games. We had a club but we never did nothing. Tom is usually real nice but one time he played a mean trick on Ms. Watson's slave Jim. That made me feel bad.

I also lived with my Pap for a while. It was fun at first because had no rules and he didn't make me go to school. I started to get lonely because he wasn't home much and he said mean things. If only Tom was here.

After that, I decided to leave. I would rather go on adventures. I tricked everyone and escaped on the river.

I was very hopeful and excited to get to dry land. The river looked miles and miles across, I didn't know if I'd ever get there.

Pap and some other adults tried to find me but they couldn't. Even Tom Sawyer was there! I am really good at hiding. I kept heading toward a big ole island. I found some snacks because I was getting hungry.

I made it to the island! One day I saw a camp fire and followed it. I couldn't believe it when I saw Ms. Watson's Jim! Jim was most ruined for a servant, because he got stuck up on account of having seen the devil and been rode by witches. He was escaping so we worked together.

I wanted to know what was happening back home so I dressed up like a girl and went back. I talked to a lady who told me her husband was comin to find Jim on the island! We left faster than a cheetah.

Oh no!

Jim and I left on a raft we found. Life on the river was mighty nice. Then there was a storm. The rain poured down in a solid sheet. We saw a boat that crashed during the storm and went to check it out.

We got to the boat and it was a mess. There was some mean guys on the boat so we left but we couldn't find the raft! We did find a boat we could use so we took that.

Jim and I made it to the river alright. He told me all 'bout his family and we talked real good. You know, Jim is a very nice person. We were tired so we tried to get some rest.

Before I knew it, I couldn't see Jim no more! There was fog everywhere. I looked and looked but I was so sleepy I couldn't help but take a nap. When I woke up the fog was gone and I found Jim sleeping.

Soon as we were back on the river, a boat came and broke our boat and we fell in the water. I couldn't see Jim but I found some dry land and a nice house.

In the nice house there was some nice people. Buck and I became good friends and he showed me around.
Buck and his family did not get along with their neighbors. I didn't like that so I went and left their house.

I thought I'd try and find Jim so we could keep going. He was sittin' by the river waiting. You'll never guess what he had found! The raft!

It sure was good to be with Jim again. I really missed him. We catched fish and talked, and we took a swim now and then to keep off sleepiness. We had lots of fun!

I loved to look up at the stars at night. After no more than three days of this, two men came on our raft! The old one had gray whiskers and a bald head- he called himself a king. The younger one called himself a duke. I reckon that Jim believed them to be who they said they were, but I stayed out of it. I wanted to keep peace in the family.

The King and the Duke soon knit themselves into mine and Jim's life on the river. The Duke wanted to get richer by performin' somethin' fancy.

Where are you Romeo?

You aren't saying it right!
The King and the Duke printed them playbills for a big fancy show, but the townspeople soon figured out that they had been scammed, so we all snuck out with the admission money and continued on down the river.

Now, I started to feel mighty guilty about being part of the two rapscallion's scheming, especially after they pretended to be the Uncles of the wealthy Wilks daughters. Peter, the daddy, left lots o' things to the uncles, and the King and Duke wanted to take 'em! They even bamboozled Mary Jane, the oldest, into giving them her $6,000!

I was feeling just rotten about swindling those nice girls, so I snuck on into the King and Duke's room. I saw where they hid the money, and after they went over yonder, I took it!
