Dear Nathan, this is a rewrite of a book I gave you on your 11th birthday (I think). This is a fun way to write a book , and I thought it would help preserve it for your own children.

Chapter 1 The Little Egg
One day, (it was an ordinary day on earth,) a little egg came crashing through the atmosphere of the planet and landed in a grassy field in California. This egg was so little that nobody noticed it, especially the people in the great planetarium. They were looking for big things in the universe. They had a huge telescope and watched day and night for something extraordinary to fall through the skies. But they never noticed the little egg.

It was a cute little egg with red and white spots. It could have been thought to be an Easter egg-which is precisely how things turned out.
First a dog came along and found the egg. His master was not far behind and came upon the egg because the dog pointed his nose at it.
The boy picked it up and put it in his pocket.
"How strange to find an Easter egg out here," he exclaimed. Then he promptly forgot about it. That is, until his mother found it when she was doing the laundry.
"What is this Easter egg doing in your pocket? " she asked.
"Oh, I just found it," he answered.
He put it on his shelf inside a bird's nest he had found a long time ago. And then he forgot about it again.
It wasn't until two weeks later that he happened

to notice that his Easter egg had broken.
"How strange," he said. It's like it hatched, or something. He began to search for a chick or a bird that might have hatched out of his egg. He considered it HIS egg, by now.
His room was a terrible mess, so he began by picking up his toys. No chick. No bird. Then he made his bed. He pulled back the covers but... no chick...no bird.

He began to put his clothes away. He opened up his closet, which he hadn't done for months. He looked on the floor. He looked on the shelf. No chick. No bird.

He decided he needed a snack. All that work made him hungry. As he went into the kitchen he heard a snuffling sound. He looked all around until he saw the sugar box moving around on the counter...When he peeked inside.....eeeeek! It was not a bird. It was not a chick. It was a little miniature boy with blue spots on his cheeks and an antenna on his head. He was eating sugar."Yum!" he said. Nathan hungry. Feed Nathan."

Well, what would you do if there was a little alien in your kitchen, and he was hungry? You would feed him.
John put some bread in the toaster and got out some juice. He made a nice breakfast for Nathan and himself. Nathan sat beside him on the table, and they both ate.

Chapter 2 A Member of the Family
After the initial shock, John's mother accepted the little alien into the family. When people asked her how many children she had she would answer:
"Two. I have two boys, John and Nathan." John's father accepted the new family member, too
It became more convenient as the little alien grew into a normal size boy. He grew very fast for a while. Maybe it was because he kept getting into the sugar box and eating to his heart's content. His mother made him stop, though."That's not good for you," she said.It was about that time that his growing slowed down and he was the size of an eleven year old .
Not only was Nathan a fast growing boy, but he was a fast learner. His mother took him to kindergarten, but by the end of the day the principal had him in third grade. He was especially good at science and loved to learn about stars and planets.
Every day got better and better for Nathan and his family. No one really noticed that he had blue spots on his cheeks because his mother put makeup on him. No one noticed his antenna because he wore a baseball cap.. John and his parents did not really care that he had these anatomical differences, but they just thought it would be easier for Nathan if he did not attract attention.

Trouble was brewing, though, because Nathan's people were looking for him. One day a flying saucer landed on the playground. Aliens got out and began inspecting all the children. "Are you an alien?" They asked every child.
Nathan hid in the boy's bathroom. He did not want to be found. He liked where he was.

Are you an alien?

He liked his family. He liked earth. John found Nathan and told him to stay in hiding. He did not want them to find him, either
When they got home that day the news was all over town that an alien space ship had landed at the elementary school. Nathan's mother was worried. When Nathan's father got home he talked to Nathan.
"Do you want to go with these aliens? Do you want to live on another planet? Do you want to leave us?" Nathan answered no to every question.
" Well then, we had better get a plan," said his father. That night they packed up all their camping gear and left in their camper. They headed for the mountains and kept going until they were very far from the city. They stopped where the trees were very dense. They put branches on top of the camper to camouflage it.

Then they went to sleep.
The next morning they set up camp. They built a fire, but tried to hide it in the thick trees.
"Maybe if the trees are thick above us the smoke will filter through slowly," they said.
They cooked breakfast and then they worked hard to make sure they were well hidden. They put their lounge chairs under a shelter they made out of branches. The boys went exploring and found a creek. They were glad to have water nearby. Everything was set up to help them have a good time in the wilderness.
