What is a Season?
As a year passes, regular changes occur in the weather. This cycle of weather changes is divided into four parts, known as the seasons. The four seasons are winter, spring, summer, and autumn (or fall).
Spring
The season of spring lasts from March 1st to May 31st. It is after Winter and before Summer.
During the spring, trees and bushes that lost their leaves during winter begin to grow new leaves and produce flowers.

During spring the temperature of the air and soil start to get warmer and the hours of daylight increase as the days get longer! The Earth is slightly tilted towards the sun during Spring.
Summer
Summer occurs because of the way the earth is tilted toward the sun. The hemisphere (half of the Earth) that is tilted in the direction of the sun has Summer and the hemisphere that is tilted away from the sun has Winter.
Summer is the season with the longest and warmest days of the year.
Summer is when most kids have a long VACATION FROM SCHOOL!

Fall
During fall or Autumn, the leaves on trees start to change colors and also start to reproduce and spread their seeds. Fall is the transition from Summer into Winter. During Fall the Northern hemisphere is tilted slightly away from the sun.
The temperature cools down during fall and it happens during September in the Northern hemisphere but March in the Southern hemisphere. There is also less sunlight and the days are shorter.
Many people celebrate Thanksgiving and Halloween during Autumn.
Winter
Winter has the shortest days and the lowest temperatures of all the seasons. During Winter, the Northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun.
Many animals hibernate of migrate away during the winter. Trees and plants stop growing and this is when you get to play in the snow and build snowmen!

Equinoxes
There are two equinoxes. The vernal (spring) Equinox and the Autumnal (fall) Equinox.
An equinox is when day and night are almost equal lengths.
Because of the axis Earth is on, as it spins it also tilts on that axis. Usually one hemisphere is slightly tilted toward the sun so it is summer and winter occurs in the hemisphere that is tilted away from the sun.
When Equinoxes Occur

An equinox occurs twice a year. There is one in March and one in September. They happen on March 20th and September 22nd. The hours of day and night aren't exactly equal, but they are pretty close.
An equinox happens when the Earth isn't tilted at all, but the axis stays tilted at all times.
