Introducing ............ballet

Ballet is hard. I should know. I am a ballerina. I practice for hours every day. This book is perfect for those of you considering dancing ballet. I warn you now. Ballet is hard and you must listen to your ballet teacher or else you can get seriously injured. Ballet is supposed to be fun. I love seeing all my hard work pay off.

At the ballet

Before you perform in a ballet you probably should see it first. That way you understand what is going on. I saw The Nutcracker for my first time when I was 9 and performed in it when I was 11. When you go make sure you know the story of the ballet so you're not confused. Watch the ballet closely and enjoy it. Notice how the dancers all seem to enjoy it. They mask the pain in their feet by smiling.

At ballet class

You will start out wearing pink leotards but will one day wear black. This is true for some dance schools but not all. Stick with the dress code. You will start out in ballet flats but you will one-day graduate too pointe shoes. The dance instructor should teach you how to do a few basic moves. You should be careful to listen or else suffer from terrible injuries. Most importantly, have FUN.

Ballet auditions

Make sure you know what is expected of you beforehand. Some auditions have you create a piece for you to perform. Some have you do basic ballet moves. If you do your best then you should be able to win. If you don't get a part than try again next time when you have improved. Remember, you did the best you could.

Rehearsal

Now that you have got the part you will start going to rehearsal. Rehearsals are like a class but instead of working on a technique you work on your performance. Dress rehearsals are different. You rehearse in you costume to get used to it. Make sure you listen to your choreographer and have fun.
