To Mr. Perazzo for making this book become something other then just thin air. If it weren't for you, I never would have written this.

Sam was a little boy who lived with foster parents. Sam would move around from house to house hoping that someday he would be able to live with his parents again.

As Sam moved from house to house, he started to grow a shadow. This shadow was full of all Sam's negative thoughts and the things he was worried would happen if people learned he was a foster kid.

Sam lived with a family named the Williams. The Williams were an old couple that loved children. When Sam looked sad, they would always tell him, "It's okay Sam. You are amazing. We love you so much." Sam didn't believe them, and he would add those feelings into his growing shadow.

One day, Sam went to school and met a girl named Brynlee. Brynlee asked Sam why he was so quiet, and Sam replied saying, "I don't know."

After that, Sam and Brynlee became great friends. Every day, Brynlee would ask, "Why are you quiet all the time?"

One day, when Brynlee asked the question, Sam decided to tell her what happened to him, and why he lives with the Williams. Brynlee stayed quiet for a minute. Sam didn't know what to do, so he ran back home with his shadow still growing.

Sam got home and ran to his room. A little later, the Williams came to talk to him. They asked Sam if everything was okay, but he continued to cry. So they left him alone.
