Cry Baby (sometimes written as Crybaby) is a fantasy version of Melanie Martinez created for her debut album Cry Baby. She is Melanie's alter-ego. Cry Baby's story can be found through the album's songs, the official music videos, the interactive storybook, the tour, and other mediums Melanie has conveyed.

Melanie explained that Tag Your It, Milk And Cookies, and Dollhouse weren't inspired by her life. Chloe Tersigni is an artist and a fan of Melanie. Melanie loved her artwork so much, that she asked her to make the drawings for the album story book.

When the tracklist of the album was leaked, the websites that did it replaced Tag Your It with Jump Rope and Paly Date with Half Hearted. Whinnie (Melanie's Bunny) appears in the "Dollhouse" music video. Melanie stated that there wasn't a particular reason to include him other than he wanted to be in it.

Dollhouse was released before she was signed to a label. Ever since the release of Dollhouse, it has never left the overall of the top 200 music videos on ITunes. Dollhouse is Melanie's only first and only platinum certified song. The lipstick she used in Sippy Cup was from her friend and stylist Stella Rose Clair, who also played as crybaby's mother.

The pink vomit that Melanie throws up on the Carousel is actually yogurt. The Carousel music video cost around $15,000. Carousel was written in October of 2013. According to BMI Repertorie, Alphabet City was an alternative title for Alphabet Boy. For the Soap (Original Video), Melanie had a couple of friends come over and shoot her in her hotel tub.

Soap is featured in the movie Nerve featuring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco. Both Melanie double features only took 4 days to edit. You won't find the original video of Soap now if you search the song on Youtube. The lyric "It's My Party, And I'll Cry If I Want To" is a sample from Lesley Gore's song "It's My Party". 

On one of the invitations the person being invited is Johnny. According to Melanie, the reason that no one attend to crybaby's party because they all went to Beth Anne's party that was on the same day. There are 9 candles on crybaby's cake, revealing that she supposedly nine years old. In the crybaby book there are 3 candles.
