Our Solar System
Our Solar System is only a small speck in the universal. Our solar system is made out of 8 planets. Those eight planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Each of the planets circulate around a star known as the Sun. With each planet each, they all have their own characteristics with them.
Mercury
Mercury is the first planet in the solar system, which makes it the closest to the sun. It is the smallest planet out of the 8 planets. For every 2 orbits* of the Sun, which takes 88 Earth days, Mercury completes three rotations of its axis*. Mercury only has one moon like earth does.

Venus
Venus is the second planet in our solar system. This planet is known as the sister planet of Earth because their size and mass* are so similar. Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system having a temperature of 863'f . It also rotates clockwise unlike the other planets that rotate counter-clockwise.

Earth
Earth is the planet that you live on. Earth is the third planet in the Solar System. This is the only planet that their is known living species* on. Also the only planet that has water on its surface.

Mars
Mars is the fourth planet in the Solar System. Earth and Mars landmass* are very similar. Mars is the only planet, other than Earth, to have two icecaps* on the planet. It takes 687 Earth days to orbit around the sun. Mars has two moons name Phobos and Deimos. Mars is the only planet that could inhabit life, besides Earth.
*Refer to Glossary
Jupiter
Jupiter is the fifth planet in the Solar System. The planet has the shortest days out of all the planets, which is 9 hours and 55 minutes. Jupiter take 11.9 Earth years to orbit around the Sun. The big red spot on Jupiter is hurricane that has been around for hundreds of years. Jupiter has 67 moons and Ganymede, is the largest moon in the solar system.
