Why is Matariki important?
Matariki is important, because the brighter the starts are the warmer the season will be. It is also when families gather together and think about past and the future.

My Trip to the Museum and Matariki show

On Friday 23rd of June 2017, my class 10H, and 9P went to the Auckland museum to learn about Matariki. Our teachers Mr Sherwood, Mrs Thomas, Mrs Zhao and Mrs Son came with us. We left school at 9:00 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m we got onto the train. Everyone was excited. The students were laughing, singing and seemed happy. We left the train and walked to the museum. At 10:30 a.m we arrived at the Museum. At the beginning, a kaiako which means teacher in the Maori language. they welcomed us full of respect and told us about the rules in the Museum

Next, kaiako,s told us the story about ta moko. It's a Maori traditional facial tattoo. Also informed us about Matariki, and how there are two more starts that are added to the seven stars. after they asked some questions about the topic.

Since we finished there was a game that we played similar to Simon says but in Maori language. After the activity, they told us if we would like to have ta moko on our face some people did and some people didn't. It was extremely noticeable.

After that, We went to the Matariki show. The performers were representing Maori culture and the environments. We left, and took pictures with the performers. At 1:00 pm we had some lunch and we looked around museum but unfortunately we didn't had that much time.

At 1:30 we left the museum and walked to the train station. When we got onto the train Me, Ilknur, and Jossie we played vocabulary games with Mr Sherwood. We all were happy and enjoyed our day. At 2:00 pm we arrived at Waitakere college. i had a blast day with my friends and lovely teachers.
