This book is dedicated to all second graders who love rocks.

Hello! My name is Sophie and I am a sedimentary rock.
What is a sedimentary rock? Well, sedimentary rocks are made when sand, mud, and pebbles settle into layers.
Over time, the layers become more compacted, or squished together, and form a rock.

Sedimentary rocks can be formed in lakes, rivers, seas, and even in the desert!

One type of sedimentary rock is limestone. It is formed by shells and coral that fall in layers under water.

Limestone can be used to make cement and in blocks for building.

Fossils can be found in sedimentary rock!
