Having decided to donate
the blue diamond to the local museum, Charles telephoned
to organise a meeting
with the curator.
"Right," began Charles,
"all settled. We can see the curator later this morning."
"I think we're doing the right thing, Charlie," said Elizabeth.
"Folks won't be able to see
and enjoy the diamond if
we hang onto it."
"Quite so,"
agreed Charles.
"I'd feel awfully guilty depriving
folks of the pleasure."
"Jolly good then,"
said Elizabeth.
"If we're to venture out to the museum then hats are a must."
After donning his favourite bowler hat, Charles pops the
blue diamond into a bag
for safekeeping.
"You wouldn't mind if I drove, would you?" asked Elizabeth.
"Of course not," replied Charles
as he stowed the diamond into the Cord's trunk.
A short while later, Charles and Elizabeth arrive at the museum.
"Don't you just adore museums?" asked Elizabeth.
"Unequivocally," replied Charles.
Charles and Elizabeth
enter the museum.
Miss Winters, the curator's assistant, had been
awaiting their arrival.
"A very good morning to you,"
began Charles.
"I'm Charles and this is Elizabeth.
We're to meet with the curator."
"A very good morning, Charles,"
replied Miss Winters.
"Thank you for coming. The curator will be with you shortly."
"We were ever so excited on your discovery," said Miss Winters.
"It's wonderful you've decided
to donate the diamond."
"A museum can't have too much bling-bling," quipped Charles.
"May I leave it with you? It's awfully heavy - my arms are near to falling off I fear."
"Most certainly," said Miss Winters. "I'll keep an eye on it."
A few moments later, the museum curator arrived to greet Charles and Elizabeth.
"A very good morning to you both!" exclaimed the curator.
"I'm Dr. Lawrence - chuffed to see you both here today."
"How do you do," said Charles
as he shook hands.
"I'm Charles and this is Elizabeth.
Thank you kindly for seeing us."
"It is our pleasure,"
replied Dr. Lawrence.
"Would you care to see some of our newer exhibits before we begin?" asked Dr. Lawrence.
"Would we ever!"
exclaimed Charles and Elizabeth.
"Right this way then,"
beckoned Dr. Lawrence.
Dr. Lawrence lead Charles and Elizabeth to an exhibit in the neaderthal section
of the museum.
"This is an almost full set of
teeth from the lower jaw of a neanderthal," said Dr. Lawrence.
"Good gracious!"
exclaimed Elizabeth.
"What a set of gnashers!"
"Not the sort of creature you'd
like eating you," joked Charles.
"Despite being several million years old they're in remarkable condition," said Dr. Lawrence.
"We're not quite certain how they maintained such pearly whites.
Shall we move on to
the next exhibit?"
"This is a portrait of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, painted in seventeen sixty-four,"
said Dr. Lawrence.
"It was donated recently along with some other items belonging to Charlotte."
"The first portrait there was done at age eighteen. The next one was at thirty-five and the next at sixty," explained Dr. Lawrence.
"Charlotte didn't really age a great deal," stated Elizabeth.
"No, not all," replied Dr.
Lawrence. "Onward!"
"Goodness!" exclaimed Elizabeth.
"Heavens!" gasped Charles.
"We have the Mona Lisa here
on loan from the Louvre,"
Explained Dr. Lawrence.
"I'll next show you where we'll exhibit the blue diamond,"
said Dr. Lawrence.
"I believe such a treasure will
rival even the beauty of this remarkable painting."
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to everyone, other visitors have arrived at the museum...
Dr. Lawrence lead Charles and Elizabeth to a case which was
to hold the blue diamond.
"Miss Winters should be
here momentarily,"
explained Dr. Lawrence.
"I do believe it'll be our most spectacular exhibit yet!"
"Not only is the case bullet-proof," explained Dr. Lawrence,
"but it's impossible to open once sealed. As safe as houses."
"Remarkable," said Charles
"Ah!" exclaimed Dr. Lawrence,
"here's Miss Winters now."
Dr. Lawrence reached into
the bag holding the blue diamond and retrieved it.
"Now," began Dr. Lawrence,
"who would like the honour
of placing it into the case?"
