Amelia Earhart
This book is about an inspirational woman who was a pioneer in aviation and made others believe that they could soar and do anything they set their minds to. Amelia is celebrated for her courage and strength.
I was born in Atchison, Kansas on July 24, 1897. I saw my first plane when I was 10 years old at a state fair, but I was not interested in flying until I saw a stunt-flying exhibition about 10 years later.

During World War I, I became a nurses' aid in Toronto, Canada. I helped to take care of wounded soldiers. After this, my next job also had nothing to do with airplanes- I became a social worker in Boston, Massachusetts.

I went for a ride in an airplane for the first time in 1920 with a pilot named Frank Hawks, “By the time I had got two or three hundred feet off the ground, I knew I had to fly.”
In 1923, I became the sixteenth woman to earn a pilot's license! I was so excited!

I set many records in my lifetime, the first of these was being the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean in June 1928. In May of 1932, I became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Did I mention that I am also an author? A few months after I flew across the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, I wrote and published a book about it.
I also designed flying clothes for women that were advertised in Vogue Magazine.
My life was full of many other records, such as multiple speed records and many other solo flights that no other people even attempted.
BUT, in 1937, a horrible thing happened. I vanished and no one ever found me.
