All praise is due to ALLAH the creator and sustainer of the worlds, the most gracious most merciful. Happy reading family!

Today we are going to learn about a few basic symbols in math, what they mean, and how to use them. Happy learning!
The first symbol is the plus sign + also known as the addition sign. When you see this sign it means that you must put all of the numbers together and count them.

Add
Together

When we add we say 1+2=3 because we counted how many fruits we had altogether! We added the 1 strawberry together with the 2 pineapples, and after these friends came together, we got 3 as our answer.

The following is an example: 1 + 2 = 3
Next we are going to cover our equal sign. You saw the equal sign on the last page and it simply means "the answer is". So after you find your answer you put it next to the equal sign because it is your answer.

The following is an example: 1 + 3 = 4

After we added how many bears and cats there were altogether we get an answer. We put our answer after the = sign.
Now we go to our subtraction sign - also known as the minus sign and take away sign. This means that we take away and/or remove in the problem.

Take away
minus
The following is an example: 3 - 1 = 2
This means that we are going to take only 1 shoe away from 3 shoes which leaves us with only 2 shoes.
