Hello! I’m Nova, the space creature and I have always wanted to explore space, but to do that I need a rocket ship. I came up with an amazing idea to use the engineering design process to make my ship!

The engineering design process is a list of steps that engineers use to make things. There are 6 steps: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve, and Test. While I do those steps, I’m going to walk you through them. LET’S GET STARTED!

STEP 1: ASK

First you have to find the problem.

• My Problem: Create a rocket ship that can be fly into space.

STEP 2: IMAGINE

Now it’s time to think of ways to solve my problem. Brainstorm ideas and choose the idea that you think is the best. A great way to keep track of your ideas is to use a journal. Engineers use it to keep track of their many ideas.

STEP 3: PLAN

Take all of your ideas and plan. Gather the materials and tools. Look at all of your drawings and put them together, or pick the one that you think is best!

STEP 4: CREATE

Now that I’ve done all of the researching, planning, and drawing it’s time for the fun part! Before we get to that it’s good to make a prototype; a small model of the rocket. Then we can start creating. LET’S BUILD!!!

STEP 5: TEST

I’m done building, great work. Before I start flying around space I want to make sure everything is working.
