Hi, I'm Sophia the Scientist and I'm here to talk to you about Electricity! How does electricity flow? Where does it come from? What makes electricity happen? I'm here to tell you a little about it so lets get started!

A battery is like a container for energy. It holds that energy until we need it for something. Flashlights, phones, and some of the toys we play with, all use batteries to work!

A complete circuit is a complete path that electricity can flow through. The circuit includes a main source, usually a battery, materials that let the electricity flow through it, and ends somewhere.

Some materials allow electricity to flow through them really well and can help electricity flow. These materials are called conductors. Conductors of electricity can be things like copper or water.

Within an atom, there are electrical charges. These electrical charges are either positive or negative charges. Electrons have negative electrical charges and Protons have positive electrical charges.

This is a positive charge.
This is a negative charge.

A pathway of wires that connect a power source to something that needs electricity is called an electrical circuit. Electrical circuit bring electricity to things like refrigerators and light bulbs.

An electrical current is a flow of an electric charge. In an electric circuit, an electrical current is a flow of electrons flowing through a circuit through a conductor.

Materials that do not let electricity flow through them easily are called electrical insulators. Some good examples of this are wood and rubber.

Rubber is a good insulator.
Wood is a good insulator of electricity.
When electrons cannot flow because a circuit is not complete or is open, this is called an incomplete circuit.
