In the year 1863 is when Cornelius Vanderbilt had 1st Invested in the railroad. Cornelius Vanderbilt Had already had a business in Steamboats. He had also helped with shipping. He started off with $100 in the railroad stock market.
What had caused Cornelius Vanderbilt to invest in the railroad. He was in a train crash in 1833 and that made him buy iron roads ,he wanted to connect railroads to New York, once he had done that he wanted to connect railroads with each other outside of New York.

Some of the effects that Cornelius Vanderbilt had done with the railroads were. He Corrupted the government by bribing them with money he had, he made the way people traveled easier.
He had financed Grand Central which he did because he had been involved with railroads. He had Donated money to a collage which changed their name to Vanderbilt University.
Cornelius Vanderbilt had taken railroads that were worthless and had made them worth something. Cornelius Vanderbilt had owned 26 railroads. He owned New York and Harlem Railroad Hudson River Railroad New York Central Railroad Canada Southern Railway
He also had owned Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway Michigan Central Railroad New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Nickel Plate Road, West Shore Railroad
Some other Railroads he owed were Rome, Water-town and Oldenburg Railroad Dunkirk, Allegheny Valley and Pittsburgh Railroad.
Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway Lake Erie and Western Railroad Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad
