I was 13 years old when my father told my family that we were moving to the 'Promised Land of Freedom'. This is what my father called it.

One early morning I was woken up by my mother. She said it was time to go, and I jumped to my feet and ran to the front door. "Justinas! Are you excited to go to America today?" My brother looked up at me, but didn't say anything.

"Justinas!" I said again. "Did you not hear me? Are you excited to make new friends and get a new house?" Just as my brother was about to answer, my mother came to us and said, "Lukas, Justinas, have you gathered your bags yet?" We both smiled and nodded.

My father was at the dock waiting for us, and when we arrived, he loaded our bags on the ship. I looked around and saw no one else on the ship. only machines, and cargo. "Mother, why are we the only people aboard?"

¨Lukas, Iĺl explain everything when we arrive at the Promised Land, okay?¨I nodded. My family took a seat in the middle of the ship, and we began our journey.

We had been on the ship for three days, and we were running out of food and water. ¨Mother,¨ Justinas asked. ¨How long till we arrive?¨ My mother looked at my father and my father said, ¨About 5 more days.¨

On the day that we arrived to Ellis Island, It was like a dream come true. We had gone past security, and they sent us on our way.

My father had told us that he met with a man who found us a place to live. We were delighted to have found a house to live in so suddenly.
