My name is Amani and I am trying to immigrate with my husband and children from Sudan to the U.S because of violence between my civilization and another. It may take years to get into our new country due to the strict immigration laws, but I am willing to wait for the sake of my family. I have heard they allow dual citizenship and am overjoyed to hear that I can stay loyal to my home country. I hope that migrating will provide a job for my husband and I so our children can get a good education.

We have just arrived at the border of the U.S, and have shown our airline tickets and passports to a large man in a patrol uniform. We have learned that we have to apply for immigrant visas through consular processing with a U.S department of state embassy.

We are waiting for our health inspection, the final decision maker for the officials. We step through the doors into a large, white room with two doctors. They take our temperature and blood pressure, measure our height and weight, and perform various other tasks to test our overall health. I hope more than anything that our tests will come out with positive results.
