Ben Medley lived a very colorful life. His known
adventures included being a teamster in the

Confederate Army, being a preacher in the
Coles Mill Community, being a U.S. Postmaster.
There are many stories about Ben Medley,
some true, some a little tall, figuratively and
literally. In the pictures of Ben with the family,
Sallie who was a very short woman is sitting on
several catalogs beside him.
The photograph on the opposite page is
allegedly of Ben baptising members of his
congregation in Coles' Mill Creek. Ben is
purportedly the figure in the water with the
Dark coat on. We have no independent
confirmation of this. However, you can find this
water hole just northwest of the Old Pleasant
Hill cemetery in Cole's Mill where Ben is buried.
One story told by Bill Price Sr. is about Ben
when he was the postmaster. Ben was quite
the character and the highlight of many
people's day was when Ben would stop by and
deliver the mail, and possibly the latest gossip.
Technically, Ben was ineligible to be a
postmaster since he claimed to have served
