Cairo

When Ibn Buttuta got in Cairo the city was walled.The street was narrow and crowded. It was filled with people camels donkeys and small markets and shops.

Jerusalem, Damascus, Medina

Ibn traveled to Damascus along the royal road after leaving cairo.He met many merchants and traders on his way there

The Hajj

The hajj caravan contained thousands of people each was responsible for their own animals supplies and expenses.

Iraq and persia

Persia and Iraq were still suffering from the devastating effects of the Mongol Invasion, particularly on its economy and agricultural prosperity. But Ibn Battuta also witnessed positive aspects of Mongol rule on Persian culture. 

The Red Sea to East Africa and the Arabian Sea

Ibn Battuta had lived and studied in Mecca for about one year, he started another adventure. From Mecca, he went to Jidda on the Red Sea coast where he and other pilgrims were crammed onto a small ship.

Ibn Battuta entered India through the high mountains of Afghanistan, following the footsteps of Turkish warriors who, a century earlier, had conquered the Hindu farming people of India and established the Sultanate of Delhi.
